Inquest into death of Jordan Begley:
RAPAR notes that police officers have until February 2nd to decide whether to appeal against Manchester Coroner Nigel Meadows' decision that officers should give evidence in open court and be named when the inquest is held into the death of Jordan Begley.
Jordan, aged 23, died after being Tasered by a Greater Manchester police officer on 10th July 2013. RAPAR is working with his family and supporters on their “Why Did Jordan Begley Die?” campaign.
The Coroner had made an interim anonymity order banning the press from naming the officers. But a request from the police officers' lawyers to make the anonymity order permanent was challenged by the Press Association, The Guardian, Associated Newspapers and ITV - and the Coroner ruled that the officers should be named at the inquest.
However, the interim anonymity order will remain in place until February 2nd or until the officers indicate they will not challenge the Coroner's decision in the High Court.
