James Fallah-Williams ends his hunger strike because the UKBA have agreed to review his case8/19/2011 Journalist and human rights activist James Fallah-Williams has ended his hunger strike after nineteen days because he heard today that the UKBA will look at his case. The news came as his supporters held a lobby on the steps of the UKBA offices in Liverpool.
The UKBA agreeing to look at his case means the agency will now communicate with James’ legal representatives and assign him a caseworker. Read his statement here. Read the NUJ's statement here. Listen to RAPAR Matron Dr Rhetta Moran talk about the end of James' hunger strike on BBC Radio Manchester here (from 1h 44mins. Available until August 26th) James and his campaign team, comprising Manchester NUJ and RAPAR members, are calling people to lobby the UKBA tomorrow, Friday, at 12:30 at Capital Building, New Hall Place, Liverpool, L3 9AF. This is the building where the UKBA are considering the further submissions made by James' lawyers. At this time, James has still not been informed who the caseworker is who is assigned to his case. This lobby is making the specific demand that the Further Submissions Team Manager, Mr Poole, tells James who the caseworker is and reassures James that the case is being actively worked upon now - according with the UKBA's own procedures, and immigration law.
The lobby is also intended to impress upon the UKBA that James' very many supporters are watching and waiting for the outcome of their deliberations. We urge you to join us tomorrow if you can. Please come to North West Asylum Team at Capital Building, New Hall Place, Liverpool, L3 9AF, or email [email protected] to ask for more information/directions. For information on James' case, and to sign the petition and write an email to Damian Green and Theresa May, see here. You can watch a short video of James explaining why he is on hunger strike here.
