Demonstration, Manchester
Wednesday 29th September 2010
Greater Immigration Aid Unit is holding a demonstration and public meeting to defend immigration legal aid in Manchester.
Many of you have written to the LSC, your local MP, and the Ministry of Justice - and we thank you for that - but we're still in the same position as we were when the outcome of the tender was announced. Our legal aid contract will be reduced by 70% from November. It was due to be October but because of the Law Societies Judicial Review, which is due to be heard today and tomorrow, the new contracts have been put back by one month. We can only wish them well and hope that they succeed.)
We will be demonstrating outside the Legal Services Commission, 90 Bridgewater Street, (just off Oxford Rd) Manchester
at 1.30pm on Wednesday 29th September 2010
followed by a Public Meeting at 3pm at the Friends Meeting House on Mount Street, just behind Central Library.
We have invited speakers and include local MPs, advice workers, and people who will be affected by the loss of service to the city.- - - - - -

No Borders Camp in Brussels – Sept 27th to Oct 3rd 2010
What is the no border camp?
From September 27th until October 3rd 2010 a No Border camp will take place in Brussels.
The set-up of the camp will start on Sept 25th. There will be a lot of activities organised during the week and a big demonstration on October 2nd. The idea of the camp is to bring people together who support the demands of No Borders and who want to gather to debate, get informed, protest, view documentaries and party. The No Border movement struggles against the European and Belgian migrant policy, for freedom of movement and settlement and for the abolition of borders.
A multi-lingual website has been set up. This is the English language home page:

Detention Forum Meeting
1st October 2010, from 1:15pm to 3:15pm at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, London. If you would like to attend the meeting, please email me at [email protected].
This meeting will be an opportunity to discuss “what’s next?” in the world of immigration detention under the Coalition Government and continues the conversations which took place over the last two Detention Forum meetings. How can the sector question the policy of immigration detention in a more fundamental way in this political climate, after the Coalition Government’s pledge to end child detention? We will also be discussing the forthcoming parliamentary meeting on detention reform.- - - - - -
