Free the Women Behind the Wire at Yarl's Wood
Demonstrate: Wednesday 17th October 1:00 pm
UKBA Lunar House - Croydon
40 Wellesley Road, Croydon CR9 2BY
[Manchester/Salford demo - see below]
The women of Yarl's Wood Movement for Justice group have led the way for a national movement, in detention and outside, to end detention once and for all. Each woman's story makes clear the injustice at the heart of the immigration system. The hypocrisy of the British government is laid bare: a government that says it is committed to human rights, that promises not to send lesbians and gay men back to their deaths, that says it puts the family at the heart of its agenda. This government at the same time uses 'Fast Track' and detention to deny the most basic right to a fair hearing - cutting people off from family and friends and denying access to the Internet to gather evidence. It locks up indefinitely people who have committed no crime, locks up the sick, injured, traumatised, mentally ill, disabled, elderly and pregnant, rips mothers and fathers from their children, sisters from their brothers and tears families apart. This contradiction must be exposed and the truth about detention must be told; by building a movement nationally combining actions inside detention and out we can create the conditions to win. The women of Yarl's Wood must be freed, all detainees must be freed.
Spread The Word - Demonstrate for your families and friends in detention, if you know someone in Yarls Wood or elsewhere - bring their picture down to the demo - make placards demanding their freedom and an end to detention and deportations.
